There just might be a particular crochet stitch that you prefer for your pieces. But it really helps to know the different crochet stitches. More importantly, it helps to have an idea on how to do these different crochet stitches. Let’s go over the more popular crochet stitches.
First off from the vast collection of crochet stitches is, of course, the chain stitch. This is actually the basic of all crochet stitches ever. And it is the easiest stitch to do as well. The first thing you will have to do is place the hook through the thread’s left side. Then, turn the thread around, so that you can create a loop. Once the loop is made, don’t release your hook just yet. Make sure to hold the loop just made between your thumb and pointer finger. Alternately place the thread and the yarn over. While doing this, grasp the thread with your hook, and wind it through the loop. This would then create your first chain. Just repeat the step of threading over and yarning over, until you get the length that you want to have for your piece.
The next of the crochet stitches that you should learn is the slip stitch. The crochet stitches, chain and stitch, are actually the basic ones that you need to learn. The chain stitch makes your piece’s first chain, while the slip stitch ends your piece. After making a chain of your preferred length, you insert your hook into the second chain that you made from your hook. You then take the thread, and let it go through the two strands at the topmost of the chain. After which, place the hook into the following chain stitch. Follow through until you get the length that you want for your piece.
Next of the crochet stitches is the single crochet stitch. The first step, of course, is still to make a chain of the length that you prefer. When this is done, you place the hook into the second chain made. Then, you catch the thread or yarn from the loop, and draw more from the loop. Thread or yarn over, and draw more thread or yarn from the two loops made on the hook. Keep doing this until you obtain the length you need for your piece.
These are just some of the basic crochet stitches everyone should learn. Of course, there are a lot of crochet stitches to learn, and these are even more complicated ones. But crochet is not as different as any other activity. That’s why it totally makes sense to know the basic crochet stitches when trying to make quality pieces. And practice makes perfect, you know. So, prepare your materials and start learning these crochet stitches now!
